Discipline Policy

Mt. Olive Preschool’s discipline goal is to teach and guide. The root of discipline is to “disciple-to lead”. We will always strive to lead and guide the children into making responsible decisions.

Positive discipline teaches children where the limits are set, how to maintain control over their bodies and how to problem solve in the event of a conflict. Discipline is most effective when it follows logical consequences. The consequences for unacceptable behavior have to make sense to the child. When conflict arises, children are encouraged to talk to their peers to solve the problem. We model and teach the children to forgive each other when there is a problem. Children are encouraged and supported as they work out their conflicts.

Our discipline policy at Mt. Olive Lutheran is displayed in a Christ-like manner by praising good behavior, changing the environment, redirecting a child, or quietly removing a child from the group when necessary. These are the following steps we take when the behavior warrants it:

  1. The teacher notifies the parent by use of written note or phone call.
  2. A plan is formed to help stop the behavior.
  3. When the above procedure and all efforts of problem solving seem to have failed and the other students’ learning environment is being compromised, a conference may be set with the parents, teacher, and preschool director to discuss further options or possible removal from the preschool.
